Four footballs painted by Magnolia High School English teacher and local artist, Glenn Wootton, have been selected for display at The Block in New Orleans for Super Bowl LIX.
This extraordinary journey for Mr. Wootton began on October 31, 2024, when he received an email from a premier NFL agency, Athletes First, who represents stars such as Dak Prescott. The email invited regional artists (approximately 1,500) to “paint/design” a football or two for The Block, the agency’s hospitality house for Super Bowl week in New Orleans.
The footballs are to be used as part of an art installation at the venue where Athletes First will be “entertaining clients and celebrity guests.” The “wall of footballs” is being used as a backdrop for photos during the week of Super Bowl LIX
The artists who submitted (up to two) footballs are allowed to keep or donate the proceeds from their footballs’ sale or auction.
Athletes First appreciated Mr. Wootton’s originality and proposed using the four footballs he had produced as the corner points of the exhibit.
Mr. Wootton will be auctioning each one of the four separately on eBay beginning Saturday, February 1, 2025 at 7:00pm (CST) and ending the same time Saturday, February 8.
