8th grade science students explore Newton’s First Law today by completing a penny drop and a marble roll. Students had to make a penny fall in a cup by flicking a notecard. This proved to be challenging for them but by the end of class almost all of the students had mastered it. Tug of war with marbles was the second activity. Students had to try to keep the marble centered by blowing through a drinking straw.
