Kaitlyn Mahaffey-McGee is the Director of Choral Activities for Magnolia Middle School and Assistant Director of Choral Activities for Magnolia High School. She instructs approximately 200 students daily in the numerous choral ensembles at Magnolia Middle School.
Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee’s ability to recruit and retain students is an asset that sparks great personal pride. Last year, Cub Choir only had twenty-two members enrolled in the ensemble. This year, Cub Choir has one hundred and fifteen members in the chorus demonstrating a 422% growth rate.
Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee is an active member of the Arkansas Chapter of the American Choral Director’s Association. She holds the position of ArkCDA Event Coordinator for Junior High All-Region Honor Choir Auditions and Clinic. She manages Region 3-East Auditions, All-Region Clinic, and serves as Clinic Host for this prestigious competition that features over thirty participating schools and programs. Magnolia Middle School students actively participate in this competition as well. This past all-region season, sixty-two Magnolia Middle School choir members received the honor of making the honor choir with twelve students earning placement in the top ten chair positions of their voice parts.
In November of 2023, Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee was recognized for her hard work and dedication by the choral directors of Region 3 who awarded her the title of Middle School Director of the Year.
In December of 2023, Magnolia Middle School Prima Bella, Bella Dolce, Cub Choir, and IV (G.E.N.T.) performed for our Arkansas State Legislatures for their annual Sounds of the Season Celebration. The Attorney General made an appearance to hear IV (G.E.N.T.) chorus for their performance at the Capitol.
Also in December, Magnolia Middle School’s Prima Bellas performed for the Columbia County Chamber of Commerce during the holiday season upon special request.
In the Fall, Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee will serve as the region clinician for the Junior High Treble Chorus.
January and February of 2024 brought about one of the most successful competition seasons of Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee’s career. After weeks of after school rehearsals and private voice lessons, Magnolia Middle School presented their talents at Choral Performance Assessment and Solo and Ensemble. Magnolia Middle School Prima Bella and IV (G.E.N.T.) received Superior Ratings in both performance and sightreading at ArkCDA’s Choral Performance Assessment. Both Prima Bella and IV (G.E.N.T.) were the highest scoring Middle School/Junior High groups at Choral Performance Assessment! The day after CPA, select Prima Bella choir members participated in ArkCDA’s Solo and Ensemble competition and came back with the most Superior Ratings out of any participating school in the competition.
While fulfilling her duties at Magnolia Middle School takes up most of her time, she also will provide her talents and insight at the High School level as well. When able, Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee will aid in the endeavors of the Magnolia High School Choral program fulfilling chaperone duties and providing extra aural support when requested.
I am happy to announce Mrs. Mahaffey-McGee has the prestigious honor of being named Magnolia Middle School Teacher of the Year for her outstanding dedication to her students and her profession.
Congratulations Kaitlyn!
